MOMENTO: OBJECTS OF TIME AND PLACE

SODA Gallery
Perth, Australia
2010

Created during a two-month residency at SODA studios, this work is inspired largely by the floral imagery from the Australian coast. Immediately taken by the graphic, rough look of the natural landscape, forms created were simple canvases for the patterns that emerged. Featuring collaborations with SODA resident artists Fleur Schell and Alana McVeigh.

EN VERS ET CONTRE TOUT

Gaia Ceramique
Montreal, Canada
2011

A series inspired by time in Québec; forms thrown by Catherine Auriol (gaia céramique), silkscreened images from photographs of the countryside, and an inspiring book of poetry, En Vers et Contre Tout, brought out after dinner, written a friend’s great-grandfather Emanuel des Hayes.

SE SOUVENIR

Gallery of B.C. Ceramics
Vancouver, Canada
2008

This exhibition with Jasna Sokolovic was a direct response to the influx of Olympic souvenirs which descended on the city leading up to the Olympic games. Gnerally made in China, these objects had little, if anything, to do with the city itself. Using imagery taken during our daily routes; cranes, cities and mountains, we created literal souvenirs – memories.

IMPRINT

Harbourfront Centre
Toronto, Canada
2007

This work was created for a ceramic and print themed exhibition featuring myself, Jasna Sokolovic, Susie Osler and Rebecca Robbins. Timed to take place during the literary festival, we were asked to respond to this theme in some way. Thus began my long-standing interest in text and type. Punctuation from the first pages of literary works have been isolated to create decoration – abstract patterns emerge while holding a subtle, personal meaning.

GRAFFITI SERIES

Presented at MADE Design during Toronto Design Week in 2014, and Rumpus Room at the Yuill Gallery at Medalta Potteries, this on-going series is based on my personal photos of graffiti gathered over the last several years. They all bear similar uplifting and inspiring messages – true wisdom from the streets. In-glaze decals are hand-printed and applied on vintage ceramic wares, creating one-of-a-kind and limited edition pieces. This is an on-going series and you can see what’s available for purchase here.

MEMORIES OF A POSSIBLE FUTURE

Yuill Gallery
Medicine Hat, Canada
2014

Shown at Medalta Potteries at the culmination of my year long residency, this installation explores the nature of memory and how it affects our past, present and future. Assembled in-situ, these delicate porcelain pieces are individually printed with various patterns and images sourced over the past five years of work and travel and, as a whole, serve as the base of what is to come.

FRAGILES: PORCELAIN, GLASS & CERAMICS

Art Basel
Miami, USA
2007

Curated by Gestalten, this exhibition features ‘an eclectic collection of unconventional contemporary work in porcelain, glass and ceramics..by both emerging and established design talents.’ You can buy the beautiful catalogue here.

KOTONA VI

Gallery Widnas
Fiskars, Finland
2011

Produced during a residency at Fiskars Art Village, this body of work takes its imagery directly from the village itself, as it burst out of the snow into Spring over the eight week period. This was my first experience using polymer etching plates and offered a more subtle approach to working with printed imagery. Objects were placed in the gallery directly in view of the source of these images – a reflection of the burgeoning landscape.

CONVERSATIONS WITH FRIENDS

ECC
Nexo, Denmark
2010

Produced during a residency during the European Ceramic Context in 2010 on the stunning island of Bornholm. The landscape of the island as well as the social aspect of the residency led to a body of work featuring cast flora and fruits and a mixture of prints from texts, natural and man-made elements which directly informed my time there.

AFTER THE RAIN

Come Up To My Room
Toronto, Canada
2009

An installation produced with Jasna Sokolovic specifically for CUTMR during Toronto Design Week. Come Up To My Room invites artists to reinterpret hotel rooms into experiences and experimental work. Created with over 1000 porcelain rain drops and adding porcelain leaves, branches, birds and mountains brought the outside in for this idyllic sanctuary.
